CTV Building Cake by ginas-cakes CTV Building Cake by ginas-cakes
This is the cake I have just finished making. It was certainly alot of work, and I under-estimated the time it would take by a couple of days(30 hrs in total).....thankfully I start a couple of days early to allow for error!

It is a BIG victoria sponge to cater for 150, measuring about 16" long, 10" wide, 10" high.
I had my trusty ruler from beginning to end, as everything needed to be measured to fit. I rolled out alot of icing to dry before putting it on the cake like the walls and front. The box shape on top is completely hollow as by the time I got round to it, the cake was quite heavy so didn't want to add to the weight.

It was a big relief to get it finished and out the kitchen. It was received really well, so was worth all the stress...:)

Thankyou. It was probably the hardest cake I've ever had to do, and I think I had to use my ruler to measure detail the whole way through!
It was a big relief to get it finished...:)

Thankyou very much!

...and I should have mentioned in description that the pillars are plastic[link]. I had to use plastic supports to hold the roof up as it is a separate cake on a board. The rest though is icing and fondant..:)

That's really neat!! I mean that literally; clean, crisp lines, even colors, no wrinkling or slouching... looks great!! It's always such a shame to see a great design completed with poor execution or attention to detail, so it's nice to see a linear concept come out well!

Thankyou very much! It's always been a niggle of mine when I can't get a cake to look smooth and square.
It's taken a bit of practice....alot of mistakes, but I'm happy with how this turned out...:)

It looks fantastic!!!

Letting the fondant dry before putting it on the cake is actually a really good idea for cakes like this, it's a shame I don't have the space to do that.

...and since the Warhammer castle cake, I dry the icing first for more square designs. It was a bit of a pain laying them out. I had icing drying all over the place...:)
