George by ginas-cakes George by ginas-cakes
This must have been my most photographed pet. It's an axolotl. Apart from being camera shy, it took a while to realise the best way to take a photo was to have the lense right up against the tank.

My other axo was

Oh my gosh!  Is he a wild type?  I've never seen a dark/freckled one that I actually liked until now.  WOW.  Usually I only like albinos/leucistics with no freckles/melatonin on them.

He was shop bought, and I think only a couple of months old in this shot. His

skin was still quite transparent and bright green so his little spots showed more. I love both sorts, but did

have a softer spot for George over my albino Ginnie :)

They are as hard to keep as fish really. If they are tended to every day with keeping the tank floor clean and
a bit of a water change, they are not too time consuming.
They are great little creatures though. I think I watched George more often than the telly ^^

George got his name because I got him on my Birthday which is St Georges day.....although I found out later he was a girl, I still say 'him'.... :aww:

That's only fair, since you refer to Ginnie as a "her". Where did she get her name from?

...well, I was stuck for a name, so the kids chose it from Harry Potter..:)

LOL! LOL! I had wondered that, especially since both George and Ginnie were characters in HP, but then you said George was named after St. George and so I thought I'd ask. XD

I did until they were old enough, but we were moving. We gave them to an aquarium who said they would set a tank up and sell them on.....so hopefully found good homes :)

Wow, that one's really pretty! I've never seen one so green (actually I didn't even know that they could be green. I only know the more brownish nature colours, the white ones and the golden ones), but this is truly one of the most beautiful coloured axolotls I've ever seen *in love*

She was really pretty younger. I think it's because their skins still a bit translusent that the colour was so vibrant.
Her colour dimmed right down to a greeny-brown as she grew up :aww:

Well, we were living in Germany at the time when we bought George. He was sat as cute as a button at the bottom of a tank of plants.
I've asked a few aquarium shops in the uk and they can order them in, so maybe you can ask around :)

Sadly I do not live in the Uk. I am from the USA. I will probably have to order one from overseas then since I do not think they are very common over here.

:giggle: It's an axolotl. I'd never seen one before I got him either.
I went through fishtanks of 'the usual' fish, then went into a shop and saw George. It was a while back, and bless, George isn't with us anymore, but he ended up getting together with Ginnie(the white one), and had babies :)
