Okami Stages by ginas-cakes Okami Stages by ginas-cakes
These are the pictures I took while I was making Okami and baby. There is a bit of a jump from icing the sponge, to the detail as I had to re-ice it due to the humidity!
The last picture is how poor okami had to be dismantled to be eaten....

Do you have a FAQ anywhere with directions on how you did this? I want to make one for a friend...but I've never made a cake like this before.

I'm sorry, but this is all I have. It was such a complicated cake to make, that I could only put
up photo stages.

....just an idea, but could you do a flat cake with a scene on top? You could do the cake grassy, and put all little figures and things made out of icing on top.

No....I don't mind you asking at all. I used shop bought ready to roll icing. I use Dr Oetker mainly because it tastes better, but any supermarket brand is good.

...and thankyou! The sculpting was very testing as I use a victoria sponge mix and it's not very solid. I think I'm going to need a different recipe soon if the cakes get any more adventurous...^^

Ah, I just found out by looking through your gallery. You use fondant, right? I've never tried my hand at that before, but seeing your deviations make me want to try it out! :)

Well, it takes an artist (or at the very least skills and passion) to inspire people, right? ;P Yes, I really love your step-by-step deviations! I've often wondered how these cakes are assembled and you’ve certainly demystified a few things for me. Thank you so much for that!

....It's a hobby really. I've got 5 kids, and although they are all in secondary school, like to be at home for them....that and the fact there is lots of housework!
I'm also not a very good business woman. I do make cakes for people, but only earn about 2 an hour when I work it out. I'm a bit soft...and also when I agree on a price it sounds alot, until I work out how long it's taken me :)

Would you mind if I linked a friend to this? Some people I know IRL are HUGE fans of Okami... I think they'd appreciate it even more than I do haha.

(And oh my, that last picture... seems like someone's scoffed all the torso! XD!)

When the cake is broken down into steps it really gives you an appreciation of just how much work is involved and the skill level required....you're so clever! Was the head cake as well

Thankyou  and yes, in the second picture you can see the whole figure has been carved.
I did have to put a support under his head which was made out of a plastic lid, as it got
a bit heavy with the icing on.
