Take time piping the design on. Take breaks as Royal icing is quite thick so you will not be able to do large areas.
Have boiling water at hand to dip your nozzle in. It helps the flow of the icing, and will sometimes be able to help if your nozzle blocks.
Make spare roses as these are fragile, and can break when placing on the cake.
